Using water wisely

As water is a precious resource, we should all use water wisely.

At Hartlepool Water:

  • We have one of the lowest leakage levels in England and Wales.
  • We encourage customers to use water meters to pay for their water.
  • We provide information and services to customers to help them use water wisely.
  • We continuously strive to find ways improve the efficiency of our water distribution network.

Saving water and money for your business

There are many ways to cut down on the amount of water wasted therefore saving money on your water bill and doing your bit for the environment.

Some tips:

  • Install a device in toilets to reduce the volume of required for flushing.
  • Fit controls on urinals to minimise flushing when the premises are unoccupied.
  • Check for dripping taps. Reduce wasted water from taps by installing spray taps, push taps or infra-red tap controls.
  • Fit restrictor valves to shower hoses.
  • Detect and repair leaks in pipes – make sure you can account for your level of water consumption. Check your meter at night or when there should be no water use – more information is detailed in our 'checking for leaks' leaflet.   • Depending on your water use, you may be able to recycle water in some production processes.
