Community

Hartlepool Water is at the heart of the local community with our public offices located in Lancaster Road. Many of our employees and their families live in our supply area of Hartlepool and surrounding villages.

We view our role in the community with the importance it deserves. We take an active part in the Work Experience programme in conjunction with local secondary schools where we invite pupils from each school into the workplace to experience working conditions.

We ensure the individual pupils are given a broad range of experience including leakage detection, water mains installations and repairs, office work and an understanding of our treatment processes. At the end of the week, they are encouraged to answer a short questionnaire to test their knowledge they have gained and are rewarded with a voucher for their efforts.

Over a number of years, we have had several employees take part in the Dyke House School mentoring programme. This programme is designed to offer one to one coaching and support to a group of pupils throughout Years 10 and 11 to help them to find their feet in the adult world and to provide a different role model outside school and family. This not only has helped the pupils but has also allowed those employees who have volunteered to grow in their own life skills.
