Environment

Hartlepool Water has a duty to protect the environment for future generations both in terms of our normal operations but also the land we own.

Our commitment to protecting all aspects of the environment is reflected in our ISO14001 registration which covers all our operations that might have an impact on the environment including water abstraction, discharges and general waste management.

We are fortunate to own some real jewels; notably the reservoirs at Crookfoot, Hurworth Burn and Hart and the wooded valley near Dalton Piercy known locally as The Ghyll, or The Howls.

We work closely with the Cleveland Wildlife Trust and are corporate members of this organisation. The Trust helps us to manage The Howls at Dalton Piercy by carrying out works to install walkways and to keep the trees and undergrowth in good order. We have supported surveys of birdlife and bats at all our sensitive sites and continue to offer access to bird watching clubs.
