Water sample being taken from a customers tap

The standards to which we work are laid down in legislation in The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 (as amended) which convert standards derived from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and EC Directives into UK Law, prescribing a series of parameters ad standards which all drinking water supplied must comply with.

Compliance with the standards and the way in which we sample, treat and monitor water supplies are monitored by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI). The DWI is a Government based regulator who carries out very detailed audits of our work and report on their findings.

The quality of water supplied can be affected both by how we operate and maintain our water supply systems and how customers use and store water in their homes. As part of our water safety planning process there is some important advice for customers to help get the very best from their water supply on the Water UK website.

For more information on water quality see our 'Guide to Drinking Water Quality Standards' document showing all parameters which are monitored in accordance with The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 (as amended).
