Cleaning Taps

Tap

Regularly clean drinking water taps.

Occasionally following sampling, bacteria is identified in customers’ tap fittings. This can be the result of poor tap hygiene and can occur due to cross-contamination from food or other items washed in the sink.

It is advised that taps used for drinking water are regularly cleaned using a mild household disinfectant.
After cleaning, run the tap for a few moments to remove any remaining disinfectant.

Waterside tip- there is no need to waste the water; it can be used in the garden or for household plants!

Further general advise on kitchen and general food hygiene can be obtained from your Local Authority Environmental Health Team, or from the Food Standards Agency.
