How can I apply for a water meter?

To apply for a water meter please download and print our Water Meter Application Form or to request an application form please contact us by sending an enquiry email or calling 01429 858 050 from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays. Please return all competed meter application forms to Hartlepool Water, 3 Lancaster Road, Hartlepool, TS24 8LW.

How much will my meter bill be?

You metered bill will depends on how much water passes through your meter However, our Ready Reckoner will enable you to estimate how much your metered bill will be, depending on, for example, the number of people living in your household.

What metered tariff options are available?

Depending on your circumstances, a wide variety of metered tariff options are available, as described on our tariffs and charges page.

What happens once I have applied for a water meter?

If you choose to have a water meter installed, we will aim to fit your meter within 50 working days of us receiving the application.  

It is usual for us to survey you property to identify the best place to fit the meter. If the meter can be fitted at the time of the survey, this will be completed without further authorisation. There is no need for you to be present when we do this, although if we are unable to complete the survey, we will contact you to make an appointment.  

Sometimes additional work, like the replacement of the stop tap chamber, is required in order to fit the meter. Often we will spray the area where the excavation is required with temporary paint.  

If the meter is installed outside you property, it may be necessary to reinstate the area temporarily to allow it to settle. Permanent reinstatement will be carried out within six months.

Demand for meters to be installed
Demand for water meters is considerably higher during the Spring and Summer and work may take a little longer. In this instance, bills will be backdated to the 50th working day if we delay the installation

How can I be more waterwise?

Many of us waste water … just think about how long the tap is left running each time you clean your teeth or when you use a hosepipe when washing your car.  

By making a few small changes to your habits, you can help to save water, not by going short or without, but by cutting our waste and unnecessary use.
